For as long as I can remember I have been creating. I can't imagine a time when I wasn't looking for inspiration. Throughout my childhood I spent my free time with paints, pencils, and sketchbooks. Art class was my favorite subject. The freedom I had in the studio or on a blank page was something I couldn't find in any other subject. As I grew older my passion for the arts only grew stronger. In high school I fell in love with photography after taking my first black and white photography class. I found an art form that allowed to me use light as my medium. Something intangible. To be able to manipulate something you can't even hold is an indescribable feeling. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the smell of the darkroom and the art of story telling. Something about how technical the whole process is resonated with me. I haven't looked back since.

Now, as a student at Ohio University, I'm discovering the world of digital photography and I'm loving every minute of it. I'm finding my weaknesses and strengths. I'm particularly interested in post production. I spend a lot of time in photoshop doing everything I can to perfect my images without making them look distorted or unnatural. As a photographer I strive to present the best version of reality in every aspect.

Before choosing a major, I teetered between photography and design. Through extracurricular activities, I have been able to advance my skills in both. My design experience comes from both working for an on campus magazine and promoting events for a large student organization. The skills I learn from design directly influence my photographic work. I've learned more about what it takes to make good photo selections and also the variety of images a designer needs to make a creative spread. By working with a style guide I understand the restrictions designers are under and why they make decisions they do. These experiences have helped me better understand the other members of the teams I work on and we are able to more effectively collaborate.

Images communicate in a way that words never can. My passion for photography, design, and visual communications as a whole are a huge part of who I am. I will never stop striving to be the best photographer, communicator, and person that I can be.
